Our Green Initiative

One thing that the Enders Family is very passionate about is living a "green" life. Over the years, we have adopted practices that continue to reduce our environmental footprint. This is especially important on an island in the Caribbean, where sometimes it is difficult to practice environmentally-friendly habits, but is still just as important. Below are some ways Boo's  Bungalow and the Enders Family provides a clean and environmentally friendly space for all!

At Boo's Bungalow we encourage our guest to feel welcome by providing high quality luxuries. By having such extremities at hand we ask that our guests be aware of the amount resources being used. These resources range from towels, beddings, and paper goods. We will always insure that quality of our products to be clean and neat. By respecting our property and not over using the luxuries provided, The Enders Family can meet their Green Initiative.

LINEN USAGE

While The Spanish Wells has a better electrical grid than most islands in the Bahamas, it is still powered by propane. In light of this, we ask our guests to turn off lights in rooms not being occupied. We also encourage a limited use of air conditioners - by opening windows, closing blinds during the day, and turning on the ceiling fans. All these steps can make a drastic difference in lowering the usage of electricity. We hope that by conserving with us that you will learn your own ways of helping our environment.

ELECTRICITY

At Boo's Bungalow we are thankful to have a large water cistern that collects rain water (it's the front porch!), but it can run out if there is no rain for a while. Through small acts of keeping shower and bath times reasonable, filling the sink with water to do dishes, and collectively doing loads of laundry can help conserve water. By doing this, it makes it much easier to keep the usage down and not have to order water to fill the cistern! Fresh drinking water will always be provided to keep our guests hydrated.

WATER

Most importantly is respecting the island. We encourage our guests to be aware of the natural beauty and tiny creatures. Respect is important not only for our guests, but for our neighbors. By picking up garbage after a day at the beach and leaving nothing harmful behind is appreciated and necessary for the conservation of our environment. When in the water be aware of what is on the sea floor as there are star fish and sea urchins and other littles guys. By keeping the land and waters safe will create a happier and healthier environment for all. Treat the island well, and it will treat you well back

THE ISLAND

Food Waste & Composting

Something we are very passionate about as a family is not wasting food and composting as much food waste as we possibly can. Josh has started a composting initiative in the city he lives in Connecticut, Michael and Tracy love composting to use for their gardens at home and on the island, and Mary Leigh has gotten her house with 5 roommates to start composting as well!

Composting your food and paper waste can reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill by about 35-40% on average. Especially being on an island where there is no recycling program it is extra important to us that our guests get on board and help to reduce the waste by composting. You can see the immediate benefit in the amount of trash you take out and the beautiful gardens we continue to cultivate on the property.

By providing easily accessible composting containers (right on the kitchen counter) we are furthering the education one can gain from composting. It is simple and easy, and we hope that our guests will take into consideration doing the same back at their homes.

Thank you for doing your part in keeping our home environmentally friendly.
