Dining at the Sandbar

When you are on Spanish Wells, there a few options to choose from for good food and drink. Our favorite in particular is the Sandbar- a cute, outdoor restaurant with great cocktails and delicious meals that is only a two-minute walk from our bungalow! Open Friday-Wednesday, 11-3p.m. for lunch and 5-10p.m. for dinner, you will only have to miss out on Thursdays. Between the hours of 3-5p.m. you can go and enjoy the afternoon sun, but only for drinks (not exactly a negative!). Their happy hour is every day that they are open from 6-8p.m., with $2 off all alcoholic beverages.
For cocktails, you can choose from a variety of classics, different margaritas and seasonal daquiris. The margaritas are always refreshing and just what you need after a long day in the hot Bahamas sun. From the classic, to jalapeño for the spice lover or strawberry for the sweet tooth, you will never be bored. You can also opt for my personal favorite, the sour orange margarita, that has the perfect tartness to chill you out.

If you are looking for that classic tropical drink, look no further than the daquiris.
Piled high, the frozen rum drink goes down easy. Choose from strawberry, piña colada, mango (seasonal), or guava (pictured). You can even get virgin daquiris for the kiddos that want something fun and sweet. If you are not one to enjoy a fruity drink, don’t worry…their bar is stocked with all of your favorites and they have Bahamian beers like Kalik and Sands (I recommend Sands over the two, but no harm in trying both).
Once you are sipping on your cocktail or Sands, you will need an appetizer to satisfy until the main meal. The nachos are a perfect crowd pleaser, with flavorful queso, jalapeños, sour cream and salsa, and of course you can load them up with beef or pork. At the Sandbar, you will also find the BEST conch fritters on the island…objectively, of course. Seasoned, breaded and fried to crispy perfection, you will be fighting over who gets the last fritter covered in a spicy aioli (pictured).

You cannot really go wrong when choosing a main meal. The burgers fill you up, good for days you have been out kayaking or diving. The pizza is easy for those picky eaters, with plenty toppings to choose from and the potential for some leftovers for lunch the next day. They have three sets of tacos you can get: the grilled fish with a purple cabbage slaw and lime crema; the grilled chicken with cheese and garlic parmesan sauce; and the last (and favorite) one is the cracked conch tacos with the fruit salsa and sweet chili sauce (pictured).

I know, I know, I am obsessed with conch but “when in Rome”, right? The Sandbar just knows how to cook the conch perfectly and it is a Bahamian specialty so it is hard to refuse.
Another notable main is the “Chicken in the Bag”, a large portion of fried chicken (legs & thighs or breasts) and fries shaken with ketchup and hot sauce. You can also always get the sweet potato fries instead for a little something more. And for dessert they always have a selection of delicious cheesecakes made special every week to satisfy your sweet craving.
On top of the incredible food and beverages, they have plenty of room at their beach and on their lounge chairs so that you can catch some sun and enjoy the water while you eat and drink.

You will also find plenty of shade here, if you are looking to get out of the sun. The main dining area is a pavilion that lets the breeze through but keeps you out of the sun’s way. There are also canvas shades covering the other tables with umbrellas and other overhangs scattered amongst the grounds. You can even swing in a hammock, watching the boats come and go. The bar is always hopping and you can meet locals or others who are vacationing any day of the week. If you need any further persuading to check out the Sandbar, you can always order your tasty cocktails to go and take them back to our Bungalow and sit on the deck and enjoy the breeze.
Well…now you know! An amazing restaurant is literally out our front door waiting for you to visit.
Love,
The Enders Family
